Some excellent wisdom via twitter from Mark Legg-Compton (who when he is not helping KfC to dominate Cx races, helps everyone's favourite Oz Cx representative Lewis Rattray to go faster)

Cyclocross to do list
1. Thank a volunteer
2. Thank a race promoter.
3. Smile more on the startline
4. Keep the heckles appropriate
5. Be patient at the start. Stupid moves cause crashes. There's 39mins 45secs of the race left to pass that rider.
6. Have even more fun than last year.
7. Attend a clinic to improve skills
8. Order some new tyres! They are often the main thing keeping you upright
9. Start working on your bikes now. Those frozen BB's, der pulleys need lovin
10. Skill sessions on/off the bike

11. It's just a bike race. Race each other hard, but fair. Leave it on the course.

  2. Hi. Just wondering why there were no separate awards for the girls in Kids? Not a massive issue but a bit of cosistency would be nice given the girls were given awards last time. Especially since you gave out bags to 1-3rd labelled 'boys' indicates the girls didnt really count. Maybe next time either label the bags as a general 'kids' if you arent going to seperate them...

    1. Hi Cindy,

Unfortunately we only had the top three finishers recorded, plus balance bikes. As you have noted we usually prize girls too, but didn't have the data and in the chaos of the day we werent able to find out in time when we realised. The reason the prize bag said boys is because we had boys and girls prize bags prepared so as to reward them as we normally do. We used the girls prize bags to prize balance bikes instead as we had that data.

Our apologies that we gave the impression that the girls racing didnt count.

  3. Ok - would have been nice if you actually announced that. I dont care about prizes, neither does my daughter as she is only there for fun (and I dont even think she would have been top 3 anyway) but it would have been nice of you to announce that /apologise to the girls on the day. You might want to check the rules for licensing/running strider racing - i thought it was against Junior sports policy to reward striders with money and that they were required to all receive the same award (I didnt even think you could award places/rankings to kids that young). technically from a safety/risk perspective they shouldnt even be on the course at the same time as older riders...
