Hello Again! Further to my last post about the impending arrival of SpookyCX we would like to send out a callout for volunteers 

We are looking for people to: 
-Setup the course, this will be from mid morning till when racing starts at ~1.30pm
-Registration desk, this will be from ~12.30pm till ~2.30ish, and we'll aim to have two shifts of 1hr.  If you've done it before great, if not and you like the idea of highlighters and envelopes let us know. -Marshall, this will be even cruis-ier than in past races as all racing will be inside the velodrome, this will be in 45min shifts during the day,we'll make sure it won't stop you racing.
-Packup, after racing finishes, getting all the gear stowed away so we can all go have a ginger beer.

It's been longtime between web transmissions but I've fired up the old blogging machine to remind you that the final event of the DDCX calendar is looming...

Yes that's right, it's time to rack your brains to come up with something entertaining for SpookyCross.

The season finale of the CX year (at least in Victoria) is set for Saturday, November 8th at Harrison St Velodrome.

Entry is as follows:
If you have a DDCX season pass this is already covered!
Adults - $20/$15 (no costume/costume)
Kids - $5/$3 (no costume/costume)

You will need a CA or MTBA licence or a DDCX Race licence.

If you have been before you will have some inkling of what to expect, for newcomers plan for an afternoon of CX related fun, with Hot Laps, Scratch Sprints, a Relay Race and the main event the BCCDDCXSSCXWC aka the 'Single-Speed Champs'. Some new 'course features' are planned for the classic short course within the velodrome.

You can ride and wear what you like (but keep it PG-13 please) except for in the BCCDDCXSSCXWC where you must ride a singlespeed bike (of some form). This means a bike that has one gear (or demonstrably cannot shift).

Side note: GISing for this post reminded me just how many great costumes and fun times have been had running this event in the past. It really is one not to miss out on...

Hey, you with the CX bike!

Darebin Parklands have their next park care day this Sunday (20th July) from 1 to 3pm, which will involve flower planting at Mt Puffalo (Near the giant egg sculpture in the southern park of the park.)

Both DDCX/BCC and the Darebin Parklands Association would love it if you could come down and spend a bit of your time (doesn't have to be the whole two hours) helping out the parklands as a thankyou for them letting us continue to race here.

Sweat equity goes a long way to building long lasting relationships with open space stewards, and we want to continue the great relationship we have with the DPA and not let it be ruined by a few local residents who disapprove of a once a year CX race in "their" park.

So we want to have a show of force and prove to the NIMBYs that as bike racers we don't just turn up, trash the joint, then leave.

Alphington train station (Hurstbridge line) is a short walk away and the Darebin Creek Trail runs right by Mt Puffalo

Wear your DDCX apparel, bring a hat/sunscreen and maybe some gloves (they will have some, but not enough for all) and be ready to get planting. DPA will have some water and a hot water urn for tea & coffee on hand to slake your thirst. The DDCX committee will provide bikkies for fuel.

Once again thanks to everyone who volunteered, raced, cheered, heckled or got us another rain-free race day. It's no small thing putting these races on, but it's very worth it when we see the so many people show up (and amazingly often smile or say nice things afterwards).

Working In A Coalmine

Here at the various DDCX HQs we are putting the plans together for another banger of an event, but we need to get some pertinent info out.

First up: SPOOKYCX is now November 8th, not November 1st. So your CupDay weekend plans won't be foiled again. Wow, June to November, what a long time between CX races. If only there were more races in Melbourne during winter.

Second up: All pertinent information for DDCX Round #2 can be found here. This page will get updated as things develop / change.

We should remind you that DDCX Round 2 is also Round 2 of the 'big dance' aka the National Cyclocross Series (aka NCXS).

What does this mean? Well apart from being your chance to watch the country's best CX racers rail around the undulating surrounds of Darebin Parklands it also comes with some special conditions.

If you want to race CX A Grade (Mens or Womens) you need to enter -->here<--. Entries for this close midnight 15th June. Yes, that's a week before the race. Don't forget.

If you want to race CX B (Mens or Womens) or CX C Grade (Mens) or Open (Mens or Womens) pre-reg will open this Friday is open. Keep an eye on social media for when Blakey lowers the online drawbridge.
Support races (B/C/Open/Kids pre-reg

If you are racing A Grade/Elite and purchased a DDCX Season Entry (you know, the $80 one with the sick teeshirt), please let registration know on the day and we will refund you $20 via paypal, or, you can race elites and B/C! It's a bit convoluted but unfortunately that's the way it has to be with two disparate entry systems!

If you have a DDCX Season Licence (The $60 green cardboard thing with the red stamp), you cannot race elites. You can race B/C though. Elites require a full CA Gold or MTBA licence. You can however, use it for the Victorian State CX Championships (but not the elite races), which are on at Cranwell Park Saturday June 21.

For those that weren't present at the event last year, all I can do is share some of the shots!

Dear Coach’s Corner

So before we post a race report, or links to all the sweet photos and videos that are emerging from Sunday I'm going to have a little rant about the behaviour of some riders that I observed.

You don't ride the course unless you have a helmet. You don't ride the course unless you have a number on. This is pretty well understood and obeyed.

But you most definitely do not ride the course unless it's your race or designated course open time as detailed in the schedule &/or announced on the PA. If you can't make it there in time for course practice & recon, that's your problem.

I don't care if you are Paddy Oliver, Danny Kah, Lewis Rattray, Adam Blazevic or Allan Iacuone. You are no more important than any other racer, and are not entitled to affect the schedule or impact other riders' race and safety.

The above escaped with a warning yesterday, but riders caught breaching these rules in future will be fined and issued an automatic DQ, we do not care a whit if you're wearing the green & gold or in the running for a podium in the NCXS.

Rego will close on the Thursday prior so that we can adjust the grading and publish a start list. If there are still slots available (likely C is bursting, the rest are filling), you can register on the day. 


If you don't have a CA/MTBA licence, or didn't purchase a DDCX Season Pass at the prologue, we will be selling them on Sunday. YOU MUST HAVE A LICENCE BEFORE YOU REGISTER/PAY/COLLECT YOUR NUMBER. We can no longer accept BMXA licences due to their insurance changing.

We will update this post with timing for the day and other details as they emerge.

Until then, tweak your tyre pressure, wash your skinsuit and practice your heckles.
